PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The line was out the door and around the corner today for a free turkey giveaway at Red Cross House, at 40th and Powelton Streets in West Philadelphia that houses people displaced by disaster.

And two world champions were there to share in the holiday spirit.

Light heavyweight champion boxer Bernard Hopkins, 54-6-2, with 32 KOs, was happy to hand out turkeys and plenty of handshakes.

“That should give a lot of hope to those who believe sometimes that nobody cares. We do care,” Hopkins (wearing yellow sweater in photo below) said.

He was joined by undefeated junior welterweight champ Danny Garcia, 27-0 with 16 KOs (wearing leather jacket and striped hat).

“A lot of people, you can tell they’re grateful for it,” Garcia noted.  “There are a lot of people who, unfortunately, can’t buya turkey or have to work a lot of hours to provide for their families.”

Nydia Lugo was put out of her home in an accident two years ago and spent some time in the Red Cross House.

“This is a blessing for the neighborhood,” she said today.

She is now giving back, picking up turkeys and cooking for folks around her neighborhood, at 48th and Poplar Streets.

“I got blessed with one at church, and these two here, and I’m cooking two for my neighborhood and one for Thanksgiving, for the house,” she said.
